[Lavalibrary] Lavalibrary Monthly Staff Meeting Minutes

LAVA Library Meeting 7:30PM - 9:00PM (Dave Onion & Jeff W. in attendance)

Sign:

In the next couple of weeks, Dave Onion would like to paint the LAVA sign and replace some of the plywood under the sign so that area can be used for events and announcements.  Corkboard and chalk have been purchased for the events/announcements area under the sign.

Staffing Coordinator:

Dave Onion will be staffing coordinator for the beginning of August (8/1-8/20), Jeff W. will take over staffing coordinator after the 20th.

Outreach:

Dave made a new flyer to distribute for LAVA Library publicity & outreach

LibraryThing:

Jeff created a LibraryThing progress list with space to make notes about progress scanning in each subject section (women's issues, fiction, race/racism, etc.) of the library into LibraryThing (Labor is all done - for now).  The list is in the front pocket of the white folder.  If you enter books into LibraryThing, make a note of it here so people can know where to begin with this project.

Shelves:

We currently have lockable doors for all the library shelves except the Fiction/Politics shelf and the two large bookshelves by the basement door.  Jeff may be able to borrow some tools and/or elicit some help to build doors for these shelves if anyone is interested in helping out with that (probably in September).

Recruiting Volunteers / Other Issues: 

Talked about trying to fill up more days on the calendar and get some more reliable coverage and broader base of regular staffers.  Jeff will talk with folks at the library school at Drexel (some of whose students tend to be somewhat left-leaning and a few interested in radical media) and try to get in touch with the philadelphia chapter of Radical Reference to see about possibly recruiting sending some messages in that direction about LAVA's existence and need for volunteers (Books Through Bars used to have flyers in the library school to get volunteers and this might work for us).

Library Liaison to LAVA General Meetings:

We need a library liaison to represent the library at LAVA general meetings (2nd Tuesday of every month from 7PM to no later than 9PM).  It would be great to have a regular person and especially great if it was someone who already isn't doing a million things around the library.
