library,

re. the mural going up on the library wall, i passed on to jay,
questions about plans for the mural . the proposal is here:

http://lavazone.org/wiki/index.php/Mary

 From Mary Tasillo

Proposed Work: /Bibliophilia/

Media: Paint and artist-made paper

I propose a wall piece that celebrates books -- books as objects and as
vehicles for transformative information and art -- and our access to
them. Graphic images of open books occupy the space, and the gesture of
the open books is lively and exuberant. The book images could be painted
on the wall, and/or created through the use of handmade paper pasted to
the wall in a slighly dimensional fashion. The potential translucenty of
the paper, which can be pigmented to achieve some color, will lend
itself to using layering and folding of the paper to create texture and
an illusion of further dimensionality within the book forms.

Text sits within the space of the books: BIBLIOPHILIA. Democratic
Production. Equal Access. Free information. Abundant Reading.

The peice could go into a variety of spaces, though it would be nice, of
course, to place it somewhere where it interacts with the library shelves.

images of my work.

Thank you for your consideration. I fully support LAVA Zone's mission
and hope to have the opportunity to contribute to the space in this way.

I wanted to touch base to update that slightly: I decided since writing the proposal to ax the text beyond "bibliophilia" as extraneous. Which may also cause less concern for the library group.

But I have been excited as a book and paper maker and general bibliophile to be able to contribute to the space, and specifically the library space, in this way.
