hey librarians,
a bunch of people told me they couldn't view the link to the file cart thing which i am going to buy for our zines...so i've attached an image of it in all its mobile beauty.
i'm probably going to order it this week (by friday) so let me know if you have strong objections to it.
also, could we possibly build a lid or other device to keep it secure when we're not around? i haven't been involved with any building projects, but i'm just wondering if that would be feasible eventually.
thanks!

so it has been a few weeks since our meeting where we planned out the
month of december. i thought it might be helpful to kind of take an
inventory of the things we have accomplished and the things that we
have yet to make moves on. since it's the approx. middle of the month
we might get a sense for what we can get to before january rolls
around and what should be on the agenda for our next meeting.
*******************************************************************
so based on the notes that i took at the meeting we talked about doing
the following things in december/in general:
OUTREACH:
-checking into after school programs
-reaching out to high school kids in the area
-initiating a WPCCN collaboration
-flyering the neighborhood once staffing is reliable
-announcement in city paper (chris)
-radio announcement
-start collecting members' emails to send out reminders, meeting
announcements, late books, etc.
-flyering area philly public libraries - i.e. 34th & Haverford
-flyering barbershop on lancaster av.
-photocopy flyer (kristin)
-making lava library palm cards -- approx. $150 for 5,000
STAFFING:
-rotating staffing coordinator (chris for the month of dec.)
responsiblities: recruiting people to staff; reconnecting with
past staffers; making sure there are staffers for each sun & wed.
ZINES:
-kat is bottomlining this.
-figure out a way to organize, categorize, and store zines
SHELVING:
-putting up new shelves -- by the bathroom & front window
-tower records' shelves?
-fix door on mobile shelf
WORKDAY:
-sunday dec 10th 12-6pm
-calling late fee-ers
-zine sorting
-basement book processing
-$1 books

thoughts/reflections:
**i think we really haven't done all that much that we planned on
doing in terms of outreach. maybe that's because no one really
volunteered to bottomline it. do ya'll think an outreach coordinator
position would be helpful to start up?
**new shelves are needed! all of our shelves are busting out because
of how great a job we've been doing with processing books from the
basement this month.
**our workday was a HUGE success and i'm really proud of all the work
we've done
**bringing in new librarians hasn't really been happening all that
much. i think we need to put more of an effort into this. especially
if we are serious about trying to add another day of open hours!
-i have been talking to miranda (?) from food not bombs and she really
wants to start staffing...she said she's been wanting to help out with
the library for over a year now! we just need to welcome her and i
know she'll be totally down to staff.
-what about some of the other food not bombs kids that are always just
hanging out? --i.e. kevin-- i kinda get the feeling that if someone
actually specifically asked them to staff they might be into it.
-alison owes us some staffing time for the bell hooks "aint i a woman"
book that they lost
-mike rosenberg told me he wanted to staff more
**kat and i were really successful calling late fee-ers on wed! i
think we should keep on top of this cause we got a bunch of books in
the drop box over the weekend due to the calls!
**chris and i figured out a plan for $1 books and bought a bunch of
great books with our credit!
**we are almost finished processing basement books!! woot. woot.
**zine stuff is well on its way and as i understand it, a lot was
accomplished during our workday. great job!
********************************************************************
okay, so what do you all say? what can we do this week and next week?
i'd like to see new faces staffing for the month of january and i
think that means reaching out to folks now and maybe clueing them into
our meeting on thursday dec. 28th so they can sign up for shifts.
please respond with additions, subtractions, thoughts, suggestions!
-kristin
p.s. dave, do you think you can pass this onto chris somehow. can you
just either talk with him about stuff or print out a copy to give to
him so he can be apart of this convo? is that possible?
