Guess what? ---> the LAVA Library is looking for staffers!!!
LAVA is a community space for radical media and politics in the
Belmont neighborhood of West Philadelphia. The library on the first
floor of the building has been holding regular open hours on
Wednesdays and Sundays and would like to be open much more. We are
looking for new volunteers and participants to staff! If you love
books and secretly consider yourself a self-styled librarian of some
sort, please get in touch, come check out the space, and get a quick
training!
The Library is open every Wednesday 4-9pm and Sunday 12-6pm.
Please feel free to stop by and visit us! We love seeing new faces.
Plus, signing up for a free membership is super easy and well worth
it.
We have a lot of resources to offer, including but not limited to:
*Tons & tons of books on a wide range of topics
*Zines galore
*Philadelphia radical newspapers from years past
*Free internet access
*What are we up to this month?*
-We have a WORKDAY set up for Sunday Feb. 11th from 12pm-6pm. This is
a great way to get acquainted with the Library and meet the other
librarians. On Feb.'s workday we plan on tackling the following: 1)
zine re-organization from head to toe; 2) processing the last of our
basement books; 3) shelf building & fixin'; 4) poster making; 5)
collective visioning; and much much more!
-We have major plans to build up our Black Studies section during the
entire month of February in honor of BLACK HISTORY MONTH. We are
encouraging folks to bring a Black Studies book to any event they
attend at LAVA during the month of February. We are also planning on
doing a book buy at the Wooden Shoe for Black Studies books in
particular.
-We have this idea of trying to get LIBRARY POTLUCK DAYS going! This
could possibly be a joint project with Food Not Bombs, what do ya'll
think?
*Don't Forget!*
-Open Hours : Sundays 12-6pm and Wednesdays 4-9pm
-Librarian Meetings : Last Thursday of every month @ 7pm; Next one:
2/22
Please contact lavalibrary@defenestrator.org if you are interested in
getting involved! Or stop by LAVA during our open hours.
